about
Inspired by the idea, I wanted to write a song about a "poisonous voice". For a while the concept baffled me. Could such a thing be interpreted literally? Could it kill? After a few turnarounds I found the story and context that made sense to me. -CJH
lyrics
As I stumbled in the barroom my heart spun upside-down,
Across the room the one I saw who turned my world around.
Their laughing eyes and smile so sweet ensconced my heart in gold,
But when I said "hello", you said "you've got poison in your throat".
Uuwe, Oowhy?
Poison Voices singing in the night.
Uuwe, Oh, Oh, Why?
Find your way 'cause they won't set you right.
My buddies said to say the things that I had said to you,
They said my son to be a man you never can be true.
So smile and laugh a little, it's just a stupid game,
But all your friends could tell I had that poison in my brain.
I walked away and wondered how things could go so wrong,
it pained my heart to see you hurt by my toxic song.
I left the bar to clear my head, bright signs glowed girls girls girls,
I pulled out a smoke and took a drag and said " oh what a world"
In legends long, and legends old the princes get their way,
But in this bar, this very bar, my heart was lead astray.
By toxic tunes and bad advice my heart was lived for shame,
My broken heart has fixed my head now nothing is the same.
