The Poison Voice
04:00
|
|||
As I stumbled in the barroom my heart spun upside-down,
Across the room the one I saw who turned my world around.
Their laughing eyes and smile so sweet ensconced my heart in gold,
But when I said "hello", you said "you've got poison in your throat".
Uuwe, Oowhy?
Poison Voices singing in the night.
Uuwe, Oh, Oh, Why?
Find your way 'cause they won't set you right.
My buddies said to say the things that I had said to you,
They said my son to be a man you never can be true.
So smile and laugh a little, it's just a stupid game,
But all your friends could tell I had that poison in my brain.
I walked away and wondered how things could go so wrong,
it pained my heart to see you hurt by my toxic song.
I left the bar to clear my head, bright signs glowed girls girls girls,
I pulled out a smoke and took a drag and said " oh what a world"
In legends long, and legends old the princes get their way,
But in this bar, this very bar, my heart was lead astray.
By toxic tunes and bad advice my heart was lived for shame,
My broken heart has fixed my head now nothing is the same.

Ashes

pine tree, old pine tree
get up and go away
you're the loneliest tree I've ever seen
get up and go away
old you, piney mountain
you stole my heart from me
she died the age of twenty-one
frozen on her knees
it's ashes to ashes
chop your wood to make a fire
set the beans to boil
its up to you and old pine smoke
to keep me ever warm
bear grease biscuits, butter fried
set me on my way
I cannot stop, I've not begun
Since death took yesterday
old lee climbs the granite face
up into god's hell
can't find no heaven
nor the tolling of the bell

Or Else the Sun
03:43
|
|||
When I was young indeed
And I knew no misery
And the Sun shone brightly
And the Moon warmly gleamed
I traveled far and wide
To gain sight for whats inside
For to soothe
My Heart's reckless pride
Young Love laid out a way
Leading through this worldly pain
Into beauty and discovery
That set my soul aflame
All things were in their place
and sacred reason filled the space
between tomorrow
and where I was then
Though life's flavor's strong
You can sweeten it with song
And the days will grow brighter
Like the dew catching the dawn
Though the road is long
It will show you right from wrong
Or else the Sun
Will shine on you someday
On shore held close my night
Strolling gently with the tide
Undeterred by ebb and flow
Should the water surely rise
The Moon's soft, velvet glow
Reminds a piece of me of home
Despite the phantoms
That would pull me from shore
